Dolphins made an appearance today. They haven't been seen in a while. The grunion are going to be running this month, so it seems that we will be having some food supply for the underwater animals as well as the pelicans. We are anxiously anticipating viewing "the show" with front seats in our lobby.

29 years and counting...

Hi Blogland,

After almost a year of not being able to access our blog, we're in! Hallellujah! In February our family celebrated 29 years of owning the Shoreline Inn. After the storms and high waves, we're grateful to still be standing. And believe us (check-out facebook pictures) the water level was high. The storm doors for the beach building had to be put up once.

The storms and high tides have left a bounty of treasures on the beach: sea glass, arrowheads, pottery, and even a buried wooden boat!

Well, here's on to our 30th year of hospitality...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year from the Shoreline Inn...on the beach!

Today was the Annual Polar Bear Dip down at the pier and folks came from all around to join the Cayucos Chamber sponsored event. Many were in costumes, swimsuits and a few cheaters were in wetsuits. Young and young at heart were on the beach shivering in the 55 degree weather with winds blowing at 12 mph and awaiting for the horn to sound for their surrender to the 52 degree waters of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The local sea otters and seals did not know what to think about the vast of people running toward their domain this afternoon. A few sea gulls hovered overhead in hopes of any takers for lunch would be available.

We are excited at the many other events that are planned for Cayucos this year. In January, we are offering several specials for a variety of budgets. Also, don't forget we have that wonderful 3- day weekend coming up January 16,2009 to celebrate the life and times of Martin Luther King Jr. .

February brings us another 3-day weekend with Valentine's Day and President's Day. So, start planning in case you need to make up for giving that special someone a power tool or vacuum for Christmas. Rooms are still available but the selection is slimming down.

When March blows in, it will bring our 2nd Annual WOMEN'S Surf Competition. It has several categories and many prizes for those who enter. Application for the contest are available on the Cayucos Chamber of Commerce website, www.cayucoschamber.com . Then, for many areas nearing the end of March starts spring break. The kid's are tired and ready to get a break and parent's are ready to say bye-bye to the carpool schedule for a few days.

After the wind slows down, April hops in for a spell. With spring break still on the move and everyone traveling to visit family and friends for Easter, take a side trip and check out the Cayucos Easter Egg Hunt on April 11, 2008. Later that same day, watch the Dog Parade. Enjoy watching the pooches, some local and some visitors, as they prance around in their best Easter bonnet and attire. Both events are sponsored by the Cayucos Lioness Club.

May announces that summer is just around the corner with several events planned. First, we have the faithful Antique Street Fair on May 3,2009. Stroll through the past and reminisce the days of old by finding that special item at any one of the booths that will have items on display. Don't forget about dear Mom , you may find just the right gift for her because the following weekend will be Mother's Day on May 10,2009. After that, we are ready to celebrate the local wines as the Paso Robles Wine Festival takes place the weekend of May 15,2009. Summer officially announces it's return with a 3-day weekend celebrating Memorial Day the weekend of May 22,2009. The Peddler's Fair starts for 3 days on Saturday, with crafts, food and antiques available on hand for you to discover. On May 23,2009 , the Cayucos Chamber of Commerce throws a "May Madness" fundraiser where the proceeds go toward the Cayucos 4th of July Celebration. The fundraiser is held at the Vet's Hall located at the pier. It includes, dinner, prizes and a cash bar, along with the opportunity to win some cash.

As June approaches, everyone realizes that graduation is upcoming and for Cayucos, our small town has a lot to celebrate. CalPoly and Cuesta College, along with the many high schools in the area; commencement ceremonies are taken place through the month of June. Thank Dad for all the tuition money for school on Father's Day (June 21, 2009) by sending him to Shoreline Inn...on the beach for a weekend retreat.

July comes on the scene with a big bang with the Cayucos 4th of July Celebration. The weekend starts off with the opening of the Peddler's Fair for 3 days and the Sand Sculpturing Contest (before high tide), followed by the parade, barbeque galore behind the Vet's Hall and inside the Vet's Hall is BINGO. THe barbeque and Bingo are sponsored by the Lion's and Lioness' Club's. We ends the day with a finale firework display off the pier. On Sunday, the Vet's Hall wraps up the 4th celebration by hosting a Pancake Breakfast. Later in the month of July, Cayucos celebrates the local heritage by having the annual Portuguese Festival with free "sopa's" , folk dancing, Grand March and Mass. The public is welcome and encouraged in taken part of the celebration.

During the month of August plan on taking that last trip before school starts. Escape the heat and relax in the moderate to cool climate before the summer comes to an end.

In September, we will celebrate once again another delightful 3-day weekend with Labor Day starting September 4,2009. The Peddler's Fair will be going for the 3 days for the final time in 2009. So, if you wanted to buy an item after that from one of the local vendors, you will need to wait unitl 2010 or contact the vendor direct. As the summer season winds down and the kid's are back in school, this may be the ideal time to travel . The roads are less crowded and the weather is still mild for the area.
Also, in September the Woodcraver's Association will have it's 31st Annual Show at the Vet's Hall. Enjoy a wide variety of cravings in various styles.

October brings us the Harbor Festival in Morro Bay (October 2 & 3, 2009) and another Antique Street Fair (October 18,2009) . As this is the start of the "summer" weather for Cayucos, it is the most ideal time to come and relax.

Zooming into November we have our 7th Annual Cayucos Car Show (November 7,2009). Come and view some of the coolest cars around ranging from classic to custom to vintage to muscle. The Cayucos Car Show has something for everyone's viewing pleasure. Then, the turkey's move in for Thanksgiving.

December is the end of the line for 2009 . We are looking forwards already for new upcoming events for 2010. As the year starts to come to close, keep your eye's on our website for specials and those who subscribe to the blog will be eligible for even more specials and discounts.

As you can see, we have a lot going on just in Cayucos this year. So, start planning and get your room reserved before time runs out.
